01: Why

The sales problem behind the project

Optimize sells a flat-rate diagnostic — the Optimized Business Audit — that opens the door to a twelve-month retainer. The problem was never awareness. It was that Charlene had to re-explain what the audit was worth on nearly every deal, roughly two hours per prospect across two separate conversations. And some clients finished the audit day thinking they "didn't do anything," when what they'd been handed was a year-long operating baseline. The strategy session found the stall in one specific place: after a prospect agrees they have a problem, but before they commit to solving it. It was almost never about money. It was resources — do I have the time, will my team embrace this, will this create more work before it gets easier? Underneath that sat the question nobody says out loud: will this actually work for a business like mine? These owners had already bought software, hired people, taken courses, and watched none of it stick. The film's job was to carry the argument Charlene was tired of making — before the call, without her in the room.

02: Production

How it was made, decisions not gear

The engagement opened with a working session that mapped Optimize's sales process stage by stage, prospect research through signed retainer, then isolated four friction points and matched each to a specific asset. That map became a written Video Sales Roadmap delivered before a single frame was shot. Charlene owns it outright, whether or not she hires us again. The production decision that mattered: nothing was staged. We added the camera to a real Optimized Business Audit — a real client, a full day on site, plus the debrief the following day. Charlene sat for an interview, but nobody read a script and nothing was re-created for the camera. The film shows the work happening, and her voice runs underneath it. That came with a rule attached — no financials, no identifying client detail on camera. Filming inside someone else's business makes that constraint real, and it shaped the shot list from the first hour.

03: Issues

What went wrong, honestly

The prep window was four days. Contract signed June 19, cameras rolling June 23. Because we were shooting a real client engagement, the schedule belonged to Optimize's calendar, not ours. I said out loud on the strategy call that this was moving faster than my process. It worked, but it worked on instinct and a location I hadn't scouted. The fix is permanent: when a shoot is embedded in a client's live work, pre-production happens inside the strategy session, because there is no second window. Draft 1 ended on a warning instead of an invitation. The cut closed on what it costs an owner to keep ignoring the problem, and it was missing the beat that actually sells the audit — what you walk away with. Draft 2 moved the strongest line in the interview to the end ("you can't manage what you don't measure, and you've now measured your entire company") and closed on Charlene telling an owner on the fence that they don't have to do it alone. Same footage. Opposite feeling.

04: Timeline

Real dates, real turnaround

June 19, 2026 — Strategy session: brand story and full sales-process map June 22 — Video Sales Roadmap delivered June 23–24 — Two-day documentary shoot: live client audit on site, plus next-day debrief July 21 — First edit review September 4 — Delivery Five days from strategy session to first frame. Roughly five weeks to the first cut. The engagement then grew — Optimize chose to build two more assets off the same roadmap rather than stop at one.
